Fairly stringent critique on the "genetic basis" for religion over on Language Log. There is no God gene. There's also a difference between religiosity and institutionalism, as opposed to the active practice of faith or trust in a divine being or motive-force-for-good. Institutionalism and dogma in their most rigid forms may be irrelevant, but the internal disciplines of faith or trust are not.
